Denny Hamlin was able to survive a wild day at Talladega with his car in one piece. Many drives couldn’t say the same after they were caught up in the “big one” on the last lap at Talladega during the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500.

Denny spent the majority of the day hanging out in the back. Denny started to make some ground up at the end but unfortunately would have to pit for fuel under a yellow to make it to the end. This put Denny towards the back which turned out to be an excellent position to avoid the wreck at the end.

The “big one” happened when Tony Stewart tried to block a hard charge from Michael Waltrip coming out of 4. Stewart was turned, went upside down, and caused a 20 car pile up. Denny got hard on the brakes and spun his car to avoid the wreck. Denny then got the car going again and went by the wreck to come out with an 11th place finish, keeping him in the championship hunt.

Denny is currently 3rd in the Championship standings just 20 points back.
